The Histopathology section provides a routine tissue pathology service, including Frozen sections for rapid diagnosis of surgical specimen, Special stains, Immunohistochemistry using Dako Envision kits and Immunofluorescence. Diagnostic Cytology is also performed together with a Fine Needle Aspiration service.

The section has a turnover of approximately 4,000 surgical specimens per annum, and 1,200 cytological specimens.

Equipment in the section includes:

1. a Tissue-Tek embedding console system,
2. two rotary microtomes (a Shandon AS325 and Tissue-Tek Accu-cut SRM),
3. a Tissue-Tek DRS staining machine,
4. a Shandon Cryotome and a Shandon Cytospin3.
